ไก่สายพันธุ์พื้นเมืองของทางภาคเหนือนี้ ถูกพัฒนาออกไป 2 สายอย่างที่พบชัดเจนคือ กลุ่มหนึ่งจะพัฒนาไปในทางไก่บุก นั่นคือ กลุ่มของไก่เหล่าป่าก๋อยที่พัฒนาสายพันธุ์เข้ากับไก่ตราดหรือไก่เชิงจากภาคกลาง

ส่วนอีกกลุ่มที่จัดเป็นกลุ่มใหญ่ของทางภาคเหนือนั้นคือ การพัฒนาให้เป็นไก่ถอย แข้งหน้า ลีลา โยก อย่างไรก็ตาม ทุกวันนี้สายพันธุ์ไก่พม่าถูกพัฒนาไปค่อนข้างมาก เพิ่มความแข็งแรงจากเดิม และอาจจะมีลีลาที่แปลกไป แต่สิ่งหนึ่งที่เป็นจุดเด่นของสายพันธุ์นี้ก็คือ ความแม่น ความถี่ ที่เป็นจุดหลักในการนำชัยชนะมาสู่เจ้าของไก่
